Keep Dogs on Their Routine This Summer

Many of our clients cancel their recurring midday dog walks for the summer. They do this both in the effort to save money and because they think they may not need our help. We’d like to remind you of some of the top reasons to keep dogs on their routine this summer, even if you or a loved one are planning on being home more often.

Ongoing Exercise Benefits

We have previously shared the many benefits of a midday dog walk. From preventing cognitive decline and weight gain to relieving anxiety and promoting enrichment, dog walks are a much-needed whole body workout for dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds, and temperaments.

Many clients cancel their summer dog walks because they think they will replace our dog walkers. They plan to walk their dogs themselves or have their kids do it. Unfortunately, the reality is that the summer months fly by. Most families have a hard time following through with their commitment to exercise their dogs on their own. We, therefore, encourage you to keep your dog on their usual midday walk schedule both for their benefit and yours.

Extra Socialization & Stability

For many, summer is a time to relax and unwind. Families take vacations, college kids return home from school, and younger children are coming and going to summer camp and other activities. For dogs, the extra company and companionship are extremely gratifying but can also be a little stressful, because schedules are ever-changing and they don’t know what to expect.

Keeping your dogs on their usual midday dog walking schedule will help them enjoy a bit of stability amidst the chaos. They will get to socialize with their dog walkers, take in their environment, and stretch their legs as they normally do, which relieves stress and keeps their minds engaged. As much as dogs enjoy snuggling on the couch with their families, they miss their midday dog walks when they suddenly come to an end.

Support Local

Many of our clients recognize how hard it is to run our business in these times and at the level that we operate. Our attention to detail, hiring and training efforts, and quality control are unparalleled but they don’t come cheap.

Each summer, we see a significant decline in scheduled midday dog walks, which greatly impacts our ability to meet our goals. It also greatly diminishes our dog walkers’ earning potential. Suddenly losing a large chunk of our revenues impacts our team immensely because we count on each dog walk to sustain our business and retain our employees. Before you cancel your midday dog walks, we ask that you please consider that we cannot sustain a drop in demand every summer without it impacting our professional dog walkers and therefore impacting our service offerings and future availability.

Maintain Your Dog’s Spot

By keeping your dog(s) on their midday dog walking schedule or at least one walk per week, your dog walker can keep your dog in the preferred time slot for visits and hold their spot year-round. If we see a rise in cancelations in one specific area, for example, our routes and availability may permanently change.

For this reason, if you’re happy with your slot and your dog walker, the best way to ensure you can continue to enjoy your dog’s visits is to keep your dog on their usual schedule.
