Our travel services, including drop-in visits, Almost Overnights, and overnight care, are reserved for established recurring dog walking and Adventure Hike clients after at least four weeks of midday services. It isn’t about gatekeeping our calendar. It’s about building relationships before taking on the much bigger responsibility of caring for your pets while you’re away. Here’s a breakdown of why we reserve travel pet care for recurring dog walking clients.
A Meet & Greet Is an Introduction, Not a Relationship
Imagine being a dog and meeting someone for about 30 minutes, only to have that person return a few weeks later while your family disappears for a week or more.
For an easygoing, extremely social dog, that might be no big deal. New human? Great! Where are the snacks?
For many other dogs, whether they’re shy, cautious, anxious, reactive, senior, or simply devoted to their routines, that’s a lot to ask.
When you leave for vacation, your dog’s everyday life changes. Their favorite people are gone. Mealtimes and other routines may feel different. The house is quieter. Days can seem longer. Even familiar activities may feel unfamiliar without the people around whom their lives normally revolve.
We don’t think that’s the ideal time to ask your dog to develop trust in a brand-new caregiver.
Instead, we prefer to build that relationship gradually. Think of midday walks as the coffee dates where everyone gets acquainted. Travel pet care is the weekend away, and we’d rather know each other pretty well before making that commitment!
Once the Relationship Is Established
Becoming an established Shoreline Happy Paws client is simple. Families schedule a minimum of two recurring dog walks per week OR one Adventure Hike per week.
After four or more weeks of recurring service, additional options become available, including travel drop-ins, Almost Overnights, overnight care, morning and dinnertime visits, evenings, weekends, and same-day or next-day requests when availability allows.
Recurring clients also receive $25 off Homestyle Boarding and priority booking.
Most importantly, when vacation finally arrives, your dog isn’t wondering who just walked through the door. They’re greeting someone they already know and trust.

Specifically, we learn how they normally greet us, walk, eat, drink, eliminate, play, rest, and communicate. That makes it much easier to notice when something seems off.
We also learn the inner workings of your household. Where are the leashes? Which door should we use? Where does your dog sleep? What’s their normal dinnertime routine?
Those seemingly small details become incredibly important when you’re hundreds or thousands of miles away.
And because we know what’s normal, we’re better positioned to recognize a change, communicate it to you, and support you in deciding what needs to happen next. There’s a method to our madness!
