Small Business Saturday is always a highlight at Shoreline Happy Paws. It’s a day that reminds us why we love calling the Connecticut Shoreline home: the people, the pets, the passion, and our favorite Connecticut Shoreline small businesses who keep our community thriving. As we celebrated last weekend, we found ourselves reflecting on the many locally-based companies that brighten our days and support the work we do. Today, we’re sharing a few of our favorites. These are places that care about pets, wellness, good food, and good neighbors as much as we do!

Because we are pet lovers through and through, I have to start with The Feed Bag in Old Saybrook and Paw Print Pantry in Niantic, two independent pet stores that make shopping for your pets feel personal and purposeful. Whether it’s high-quality food, specialty treats, supplements, or gear, these stores go above and beyond to help pet parents choose products they can feel confident about. Their knowledgeable teams truly understand what our furry family members need, and their support of local makers adds an extra layer of local support.

The Best Food & Drink Spots in the Connecticut Shoreline

Their welcoming family-friendly atmosphere, delicious drinks, and genuine warmth make them a perfect example of why small businesses matter. They know their customers by name and create a space where community naturally forms.

From hearty breakfasts to a warm welcome every time you walk through the door, Mirsina’s embodies the comfort and familiarity of a true community restaurant. We’ve had many early mornings start here on a delicious note.

Finally, we can’t forget Sweet Luna’s in Old Saybrook, where every visit feels like a treat in more ways than one. Whether it’s a refreshing handcrafted bubble tea or one of their signature bowls of mouthwatering ice cream, Sweet Luna’s is always a bright spot in the day. The business is named after a black lab called Luna, which always warms my heart.

Keeping pets looking and feeling their best in and around Old Saybrook wouldn’t be the same without Wagz and Whigglez Mobile Pet Spa, my own trusted pet groomer. Their gentle approach, attention to detail, and genuine affection for the animals in their care make grooming a positive experience rather than a chore. When our clients ask who we recommend, Wagz and Whigglez is always at the top of the list. They groom both cats and dogs and make it easy for all involved, which is always a plus.

As a professional dog walker, I spend quite a bit of time at Marathon Sports in Old Saybrook.  It’s where my team and I go for the supportive shoes that get us through long walks, fast pups, and every kind of New England weather. Their staff is known for fitting each customer with exactly what they need, which is why we keep going back for outdoor and winter weather gear year after year.
