When you hire a professional pet sitter to care for your pets while you’re traveling, you get built-in house sitting. Professional pet sitters take home care just as seriously as we do pet care because we recognize that your house and belongings mean a great deal to you and your family. We also recognize that the last thing you want when coming home from travel is to find an unpleasant home repair, maintenance issue, or household emergency. There are many benefits of hiring a dog or cat sitter. Following are 3 ways pet sitters provide home care; an added layer of peace of mind.
Security
Pet sitters that come to your home at least once a day during the duration of your trip make your home appear occupied. We bring in mail and newspapers, gather packages and leaflets left at the door, and alternate lights and blinds.
In addition to the above, pet sitters provide home safety by keeping an eye on your home’s access points. If we notice anything out of the ordinary at your front door, garage, gates, or back door(s,) we will immediately bring it to your attention. With home break-ins, thieves usually look for the easiest home to target and professional pet sitters coming to your home while you’re away make it so that your home is one of the least desirable on the block.
Plant Care
As professional pet sitters, we are trained to care for dogs, cats, and small animals. We may even care for a less common pet like a pot belly pig if the opportunity arises. Our focus is always on the furbabies, but we understand that many plants cannot go more than a few days between waterings, especially this time of year. While plant care isn’t necessarily our forte, we are happy to care for your potted plants. Just let us know what plants and how much water they need and we’ll be happy to look after your plants as needed.
Please update the notes in your client profile or contact us to discuss your plant care regimen in advance of your departure. We will note all the plants and their location to ensure that the scope of the request is one we are able to handle within the allotted visit schedule and length. Extensive watering may require extended visit lengths, of course, but if you have that many plants, we know you love them enough to get them the care they need.
Emergency Home Maintenance
While we are certainly not handymen, electricians, or plumbers, professional pet sitters can recognize a home maintenance issue that needs immediate attention. Should we walk in to a leak, the sound of running water, an unfamiliar or unpleasant smell, or power outage, etc. we will investigate and contact you to inform you and discuss next steps.
Because our job is to ensure that pets are comfortable at home, we ensure that HVAC systems are working adequately, that there are no potentially dangerous issues within the home, and that your home is not damaged by an unaddressed maintenance issue.
As much as we hate to interrupt your time away, we recognize that unaddressed security and home maintenance issues can cause thousands of dollars worth of loss and damage. For your benefit and the benefit of your pet(s,) we believe informing you of any issues at home will prevent unnecessary discomfort to your pet and expense for you.
