How It Works

1

Contact Us

Tell us about your pet and what you need. We'll listen, recommend the right care routine, and walk you through pricing so you know exactly what fits.

2

Meet & Greet

We meet your pets at home, do a Behavior Assessment, take your dog on a brief leash walk, locate pet supplies, install a lockbox if needed, set up your app, and schedule your first visits.

3

You Can Finally Relax

Whether you're commuting, stuck on Zoom all day, juggling kids and errands, or just not up for those long daily walks anymore, your dog still gets the potty break, exercise, and routine they need. Smile at cute photos and updates after every visit! 🐕 💖

We waive the $40 Meet & Greet fee when you start a recurring Dog Walking or Dog Hiking plan. For all other services, the standard $40 Meet & Greet and Behavior Assessment fee applies.
A note from the founder
Hi neighbor - I'm Adriana! As a pet parent to my Corgi, Cannoli, and hedgehog, Gnocchi, I know what it feels like to leave your pets in someone else's hands. That's why I built Shoreline Happy Paws around one promise: every pet gets the care I'd want for my own. After years of caring for animals across El Salvador and Qatar, I've built a team of stellar sitters who share that same standard. Trained, background-checked, insured, and committed to your pet's happiness and safety.
From one pet parent to another:
we'd love to meet you! 🐾

Why Your Pets Deserve
the Care of a Team

Pet care isn't a one-person job, and your pet shouldn't depend on one person being available, healthy, and on duty 365 days a year.
Here's why a real team makes all the difference:

  • 🛡️ Built-in backup coverage - never a missed visit when life happens
  • 👥 Your pet's care details (meds, routine, quirks) are shared with your assigned sitters - so coverage feels seamless, not random
  • 📞 Active office support - real people monitoring visits, not a chatbot
  • 🎯 Specialized expertise matched to your pet's age, breed & energy level
  • 📚 Ongoing team training on behavior, first aid & pet care
  • 📅 7-day-a-week availability - weekends & holidays

Frequently Asked Questions

How often are you in Old Lyme?
Very familiar - Old Lyme is one of our core Shoreline towns and we're here 7 days a week. Two of our current team members call Old Lyme home, so when you book with us you're getting genuinely local care from neighbors. From peaceful neighborhood walks to local favorites like the John Lohmann CT River Preserve and the loop trails at Watch Rock Preserve, your dog is in the hands of a team that genuinely knows and loves the area. (And we can't wait for Ferry Landing State Park to open back up after the Amtrak renovation!)

What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the service and how often you book. Recurring clients (booking weekly Dog Walks or Dog Hikes) get the best rates plus priority scheduling.

Starting prices:
  • Dog Walking: $25 per 20-min walk ($30 occasional), $30 per 30-min walk ($35 occasional)
  • Dog Hiking: $60 per 1-hour hike, pick-up and drop-off included. Recurring 3x weekly clients pay $50/hike.
  • Drop-In Visits & Cat Sitting: $30
  • Homestyle Boarding: $125-$150 per night (depending on dog size and medical complexity)
  • In-Home Overnights: starting at $150/night for recurring clients, $200-$350/night for everyone else (entirely depends on care needs)

For the full breakdown, see our Services Menu.
How do you vet your Dog Walkers?
Rigorously. As the Owner, I have pets at my own home too, and our team cares for them right alongside our clients' pets. I only hire people I'd trust in my own home with my own animals - and that standard holds for everyone on the team.

Every candidate goes through a thorough application review, an in-person interview, professional reference checks with prior employers AND clients, a full background check, and a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check before they ever start.

After hire, they receive extensive training plus ongoing education and active management oversight in the field every day. This is not an app-based marketplace where strangers show up to handle your pets.
What distinguishes you from other Dog Walkers?
Four things:

1. Real team, not a solo operator. Built-in backup if your Walker is sick or on vacation - your care never depends on one person's schedule.

2. W-2 employees, fully insured with workmen's comp. Not gig workers from Rover or Wag. This matters because if an independent contractor is injured on your property, YOU (the homeowner) can be held liable. Our team is fully covered.

3. Rigorous training and active field management. Every team member completes rigorous training before solo visits, with ongoing continuing education throughout their tenure. Our curriculum is organized into four pillars:

  • Safety Protocols & Emergency Response: Bite prevention, dog fight and dog escape protocols (the first 60 seconds decide everything), wildlife encounters, weather safety, Connecticut seasonal hazards (tick season, pavement heat, ice/snow), Pet First Aid & CPR (annually certified), home fire safety, and medication administration standards.
  • Pet Care Knowledge: Canine behavior and communication, canine development and breed-specific care, canine health and wellness, feline fundamentals and Cat Care, reactive and aggressive dog protocols, zoonotic disease awareness, and care for pets with special needs (senior, puppy, medically complex).
  • Operational Excellence: Lockbox handling, home entry and client home etiquette, dog safe handling and containment, canine equipment training, adventure service and trail etiquette, feeding protocols, cat care and litterbox standards, and GPS-tracked reporting.
  • Customer Service & Professionalism: Excelling in customer service, face-to-face client interactions, professional client communication, driving etiquette, and uniform and equipment standards.

Our managers actively support Walkers in the field so questions get answered immediately and issues are resolved fast.

4. Full spectrum of care under one roof. Dog Walking, Dog Hiking, Drop-In Visits, In-Home Overnights, Homestyle Boarding, Vet Tech Services, and Pet First Aid & CPR Education - all from the same trusted team.
Why pay for the Meet & Greet?
Because you're not paying for a sales call - you're paying for a complete onboarding service.

The $40 covers:
  • Hands-on Behavior Assessment, including a brief leash-manner walk with your dog
  • Detailed records of our conversation and your pet's care needs
  • Photos of any setups that require visuals (feeding stations, gate latches, leash hooks, etc.)
  • Personalized recommendations based on what we observe
  • Complimentary lockbox installed at your home (if needed)
  • Full client account setup, app installation, tested and ready to use
  • A walk-through of how to schedule your first service
  • Exclusive one-time new-client offers

The fee reflects real work delivered by an experienced, insured professional. Most providers offer free Meet & Greets and skip the assessment, the lockbox, and the onboarding entirely. We don't.
BONUS: Your $40 is credited right back to your account when you enroll in weekly Dog Walking or Dog Hiking - effectively making your Meet & Greet FREE. Book yours before 7/30/26 to claim this welcome offer!

Questions? Just call or text 860-964-0464.
How do I get started?
Easy peasy! Three steps:
  1. Reach out - call or text 860-964-0464, schedule online, or fill out the form below.
  2. We meet at your home for your $40 Meet & Greet and Behavior Assessment (about 30 min).
  3. You're set - request services through our app and get GPS-tracked photo reports after every visit.

We work on YOUR timeline - whether you're booking months ahead for vacation or calling at 4pm the day before you need routine walks.
How do I prepare for a Meet & Greet?
Just be home with your pet - we handle the rest! Our M&G typically runs 30-45 minutes. Here's what helps make it as productive as possible:

Before we arrive:
  • Family chat first - discuss what your pet care needs and wants are so everyone's on the same page when we visit.
  • Think about lockbox placement - where would be most convenient for our team to access if you need one.
  • Pick your device for our client app, Time To Pet. We recommend your cell phone. Have your Apple ID/password handy for the download (you may need it). Download from the App Store or Google Play.

What to show us during the tour:
  • Bowls, water sources, and feeding setups
  • Eating, crating, and sleeping areas
  • Harnesses, leashes, and collars
  • Pet food supplies, medications, and supplements (if any)
  • Litter boxes (if applicable)
  • Backyard access (if needed)
  • Which door or entryway you'd like us to use
  • Cleaning supplies location
  • Trash and recycling bins location
  • Plants that need watering (for any travel pet sitting services)

About the first greeting: You might notice we "ignore" your dog at first - that's intentional! It sets up a calm, positive introduction rather than an overwhelming "in your face" moment. We use gradient touch and work up to smooches. Our goal is to genuinely learn your pet, not rush them.

A note on equipment: Our staff is trained on a wide variety of leashes and collars, but we'll never use extendable leashes, prong collars, or e-collars. If your dog uses any of those, we'll need to discuss alternatives prior to the M&G for their time with us.

Payment: We accept credit card only via our Time To Pet portal. The $40 Meet & Greet is paid via the Calendly link below, or we'll invoice you through the portal prior to the M&G.

Don't stress - we've done hundreds of these. Just be yourself and let us meet your pet!
Do I need a recurring schedule to be a client?
Not necessarily - we accept sporadic bookings too, though availability isn't guaranteed for occasional clients.

That said, we highly recommend at least one visit per week even if you don't "need" it daily. The more we see your pet, the better we know their routine, quirks, and care - and that familiarity makes every visit better.

Recurring clients (booking 2x Dog Walks OR 1x Dog Hike per week minimum) unlock major perks:
  • Lower rates and ongoing discounts
  • Priority scheduling
  • On-demand access for same-day or next-day requests
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday service access (after 4+ weeks with us)
  • Eligibility for our Travel Pet Sitting services (In-Home Visits and Overnights) - so when you travel, your pets stay home with someone they already know and trust

Those 4 weeks of regular visits give us the foundation - knowing your pet, your home, and your neighborhood - to confidently handle after-hours and travel care when timing matters most. Familiarity is what makes the difference between a stranger checking on your pet and a trusted caregiver continuing the care your dog already knows.
