Why Cats Deserve Daily Pet Sitting

The pet care industry is ever-evolving. As our understanding of our pets’ needs improves, so do our standards for their care. Today, we want to discuss why cats deserve daily pet sitting visits. As the pet sitting industry realizes that cats need daily care, daily visits have become an industry standard – one we at Shoreline Happy Paws have upheld from the start.

why cats deserve daily Pet Sitting: safety

Cats can be curious creatures. At Shoreline Happy Paws, we’ve have heard many horror stories. We’ve heard of cats that were left locked in a closet for the duration of their guardian’s trip. We’ve even heard a story of a cat who was stuck in a dresser drawer – yes, a drawer!!! – for a whole week because her parents didn’t notice she was sleeping in the drawer. They closed it right before they left for their vacation and there she stayed for a week. Can you imagine the trauma that poor kitty experienced? She was stuck in a closed drawer for days without food, water, or access to her litter box. My heart breaks just thinking about it!

We’ve also heard of cats getting caught in window blinds and drapes, electric cables, tassels, and drapery. Further, around the holidays, we often hear of cats knocking down Christmas trees, getting caught in Christmas lights and decor, etc.

Because cats can be mischievous, fast, and agile, they can get themselves into trouble. For safety reasons alone, it’s advised to have a cat sitter come by daily while you’re away. At Shoreline Happy Paws, we’ll count noses, scoop litter boxes, and refresh water/food after washing bowls to ensure that your cat(s) are safe and well cared for.

While they have large personalities, cats are considered small animals which puts them at risk for faster illness progression. From upper respiratory infections to fatal blood clots, cats can go from healthy to sick very quickly. If nobody is around to observe their behavior and check for signs and symptoms, your cat could suffer the unthinkable while waiting for someone to come in and help.

In addition, older cats can unexpectedly start showing signs of diabetes, kidney failure, and more, especially when they are stressed. While a cat sitter will do their very best to keep your cat engaged, enriched and stress-free, cats know that they have been left behind and that can cause stress, especially for cats with separation anxiety.

why cats deserve daily Pet Sitting: Behavior

Cats that are left alone at home may display unwanted behaviors, namely destructive behaviors. Because cats often exert their stress and anxiety outwardly, your furniture, drapery, bedding, and more may be adversely affected. Imagine coming back to a scratched-up sofa, soiled bed, or litter box mess.

Leaving a cat alone for long periods means that nobody is there to provide enrichment, playtime, and affection. Few cats enjoy being left to fend for themselves. Quite the contrary, cats enjoy interaction and attention just as much as any other species of companion animal.

To prevent unwanted stress-related behaviors, it’s in everyone’s best interest to have a cat sitter stop by daily during the length of your trip.

why cats deserve daily Pet Sitting: Hygiene

Cats are very clean animals. It’s why they spend so much of their day grooming themselves and why they put so much effort into covering their potty in their litter box.

Because of their penchant for hygiene, cats deserve clean bowls and litter boxes. At Shoreline Happy Paws, we wash cat dishes, scoop litter boxes thoroughly, and pick up any hairballs or messes we may stumble upon. By meeting your cats’ hygiene needs, we ensure that you come home to a well-kept home, one that both you and your kitty will appreciate.
